The queries for assessments and problems discussed in classrooms are designed to encourage the learner to broaden their perspective and understand the true purpose of the subject they are studying. For EE and other long-form essays, the learner has to research the subject from proper sources, cite the sources using relevant academic referencing methods and present a coherent paper with a proper introductory page, index, abstract, body, conclusion, and reference list. This exercise teaches learners the art of researching and writing academic papers.
Through stress on research and participation, the IBDP curriculum aims to promote independent thinking among its learners. It teaches a student to have an opinion and know how to present their case coherently when they have to argue in their favour.
