Will the IB programme be beneficial for your University Application?

The IB Diploma is considered one of the most widely accepted diplomas by universities around the globe.

Accessibility to an IB programme is not limited to “elites.” A determined and well-organised student can be successful at an IB diploma. The students with learning needs are supported actively by the IB. Those who pursue the IBDP cope well with transforming to the university for higher education as they have equipped themselves with analytical and research skills through the Extended Essay and other critical thinking skills.

Benefits of the IB Diploma : -

The students made their way through the best colleges and universities worldwide. The IB diploma enables them to offer their potential through IB in their university application. The curriculum provides them with a wide array of subjects instead of narrowing their choices as they would in the A level or AP programme.

Academically, the students of IBDP are required to take courses and ace the exams in the given six subject areas. The students must pick three or four of these subjects at a “Higher” level which is detailed and more challenging, while the remaining can be of the “Standard” level. Thus, the IB programme is more concentrated on presenting the collective curriculum with distinct requirements that ensue in a diploma.

In addition to this, they must fulfil three other crucial requirements. First, the students are required to pen down a lengthy essay based on their independent research. Second, they are supposed to partake in the Theory of Knowledge course; involving critical thinking and epistemology. Third, they must participate in a few extracurricular activities.

The students develop analytical thinking and research skills and continue with the arts subjects alongside sports as part of CAS, through the core elements of the IB programme. These skills are imperative to the 21st-century workplace. Though the IB programme is pedagogically extensive, it also goes beyond academic discipline. Reflection and experiential learning are encouraged through vital components of the IB syllabus, like the Theory of Knowledge. The students evaluate what they know and how they know it.

How does it help with a student’s university application?

Research shows that students who graduate with an IB diploma have a 57% higher chance of getting into one of the top 20 U.K. universities compared to students who study in schools affiliated with different boards. Research suggests that B students are 21% more equipped for admission into the most distinguished universities in the United States.

IB prepares the students well academically. Success in an IB programme connects well with success in any Ivy League college, such as Harvard. GPA is not the most crucial factor in university admission as the IB diploma. Hence, it is advised to the students to choose the Diploma over safeguarding their GPA.

Besides college admissions, getting an IB diploma can prove to be a gratifying intellectual experience in its own right. The programme is structured to not only provide the students with a demanding curriculum but also help them in learning, analysing and critically considering the requisites that their college will expect.
