Srujana 2022

As part of the Bengaluru Design Festival '22, Knowledgeum Academy presents Srujana, the Visual Arts competition supported by the Government of Karnataka in collaboration with School of Design, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) and ISDC.

Srujana is designed to
  • Encourage imagination and innovation among young artists who can’t wait to let their creativity shine through
  • Engage students with round-the-clock activities like competitions, workshops and community art
  • Provide a platform for networking, ideating, creating and appreciating art because magic happens when light and dark come together

Competitions

No of Participants: 2 participant per school

Grade: Grade 8th - 12th

Duration: 2 hours

Material(s) provided: 1 T-Shirt per participant

Material(s) to bring: Permanent markers, pencils, acrylic colour and brushes.

Details: Participants will have to create an illustration based on a given prompt.

Theme: Nature Art / Indian Traditional Art

Evaluation Parameters: Knowledge of conventions, storyline, relevance, and comprehension.

No of participants: 1 team per school (4 participants per team)

Grades: 8th - 12th

Duration: 3 Hours

Material(s) provided: Newspaper, Cardboard, and Recycled materials.

Material(s) to bring: A carton box (max size 2x2x2 feet) to aid the creation of the installation.

Details:

  • Participants will make an installation (3D art) in the given time & space using available materials based on the prompt given.
  • Participants will sketch the design for the installation among which 2 & 3 participants will construct the installation.
  • The remaining Participant 4 will present and explain the ideation process and the installation created.

Evaluation Parameters: observation skills, in-depth editing, relevance, and comprehension.

No. of Participants: 2 Participants per school

Grades: 8th - 12th

Duration: 3 hours

Material(s) to bring:

  • Laptop with Lightroom & Photoshop
  • DSLR & Digital camera / Mobile SD card, USB drive and cable.

Details:

  • Participants will be required to capture photographs based on the prompt given on the day of the competition, then the participants will edit the photographs in relevance to the topic, using the software editor.
  • One original photograph must be selected by the participants and submitted to be judged.
  • Please remember, original photographs must not be altered and participants must also submit one digitally edited version in JPG format.

Evaluation Parameter: Observation skills, in-depth editing, relevance, and comprehension.

No of Participants: 2 Participant per school

Grades: 8th-12th

Duration: 3 hours

Material(s) provided: 2 Kg of clay, a bucket of water per participant.

Material(s) to bring: Sculpting tools, sponge, washcloth, and other necessary materials.

Details: Each participant is given the clay and the prompt using that they have to create a sculpture on 1-ft by 1ft cardboard.

Evaluation Parameters: Concept, relevance, style, and techniques

No of Participants: 1 team per school (3 participants).

Grades: 8th-12th

Duration: 3 hours

Material(s) provided: A pair of canvas shoes.

Material(s) to bring: Participants’ choice of medium to aid in product display (cardboard boxes)

Details:

  • 2 Participants will be required to design one pair of shoes; each shoe should complement the others based on the prompt given.
  • The participants will create the product display, logo, and brand name and develop a sales price for the shoe.

Evaluation Parameters: Concept, Relevance, Composition, Presentation, and expression.

No of participants: 1 team per school (4 participants per team)

Grades: 8-12th

Duration: 2 hours, 10 minutes.

Material(s) provided: A3 Size Cartridge paper

Material(s) to bring: Participants’ choice of medium

Details: Participants will have to work as a team to create the composition. The team has 10 minutes to discuss their ideas & creatives as well as decide the order of the participants, each participant has 30 minutes to work on the piece in relation to the given topic, and volunteers or teachers will keep a check on the time until the end of the competition.

Evaluation parameters: Concept, relevance, composition, and presentation.

No of participants: 1 team per school (4 participants per team)

Duration: 3 hours & 10 minutes.

Material(s) provided: Large canvas

Material(s) to bring: Participants’ choice of medium

Details:

  • Participants will be provided with a large canvas. 3 participants will be responsible to create a finished piece in any style of their choice.
  • 1 participant will write a concept note explaining the painting as well as its interpretation based on the prompt given.

Evaluation parameters: Concept, relevance, composition, presentation, and expressions.

No of Participants: 1 participant per school.

Grades: 8-12

Duration: 2 hours

Material(s) provided: A3 Size Cartridge paper provided.

Material(s) to bring: Sketch pen, pencil, colour pencil.

Details:

  • Participants will be required to create an 8-panel comic strip / one-pager based on the prompt given.
  • The comic should represent a cohesive story. The ending can be a cliffhanger. The comic cannot act as a trailer for the indented story.

Evaluation parameters: Knowledge of observation skills, detail editing, relevance, and comprehension.
